Travel Information

Welcome to Virginia!

Virginia is a small rural village based in County Cavan, Ireland. Cavan is a border county, meaning that our region shares a border with Northern Ireland. Virginia has a population of 2,500 people, approx. It has one Bed & Breakfast, 2 restaurants, 2 cafés, 2 supermarkets, a theatre, a beautiful forest with walking trails and a lake, Lough Ramor. It offers an authentic taste of rural Ireland.

The Gardens4All meeting will be hosted in our home town of Virginia.

To get a sense of this town, please watch this short video that was produced by the Virginia Development Association: https://youtu.be/7iWjPWEe1iI

And for more information on what the town has to offer, please visit: https://virginiatown.ie/

For nature lovers, there are many walks and trails that can be explored during free time:

Meeting Venue:

The meeting will be held in our office space, which is part of the Virginia Shopping Centre complex in Virginia, County Cavan.  Our office is located across two buildings – on ground level there is The Rural Hub, our community training venue. Beside this building, you will find the Digital Media Zone where our production team works. Above the DMZ, you will find the building with our meeting venue.  If you watch the video about Virginia: https://youtu.be/7iWjPWEe1iI, you will see a birds-eye view of our offices at 0.52:

To reach our office on the morning of the meeting, partners can use Google Maps to navigate to our office by following the post-code: A82CX44.

There is a black gate to the side of our Digital Media Zone – DMZ – Building and if you pass through this gate, you will find a blue door which leads to our offices upstairs.

Getting there:

All partners should fly to Dublin Airport. To reach Virginia from the Airport, you have the following options:

By bus:

You can take a direct bus from Dublin Airport.  The bus is operated by Bus Eireann, and leaves from Atrium Road in Dublin Airport, which is outside Terminal 1, but it is well sign-posted so you should have no difficulty in finding it. The bus is route number 30 or 30X – the 30X bus provides you with a direct bus from Dublin Airport to Virginia. The 30 bus makes some stops along the way, but is only marginally more time that the 30 bus. An up-to-date timetable for this bus service can be viewed at this link: https://assets-eu-01.kc-usercontent.com/571a68d0-9496-01c9-92db-f215b9246a29/85142606-a8ee-405b-9baf-f15d8dfc7f36/Route_30-X30_4pp_DL_26_sep_2021.pdf

The fare for the bus is approximately, €20-€25 for a return ticket.  The return ticket can be purchased online at this link: http://www.buseireann.ie/ or alternatively you can pay the fare on the bus, but the bus driver will only accept exact cash if you decide to pay on the bus.  The bus also has Wi-Fi so that should help to pass the approx. 1-hour transfer from the airport to Virginia.

By taxi:

Alternatively, you can take a taxi, but I estimate this would cost €150+ one-way using a taxi meter from Dublin Airport, so I would definitely recommend taking the bus. If you would like us to book a taxi transfer on your behalf, we work with a local taxi company who provide a transfer from Dublin Airport to Virginia for €125-150, one-way. Please let us know about this ASAP, so that we can arrange this for you.

By car:

If you would rather hire a car and drive to Virginia, there are a range of car hire companies located in the arrivals hall in Dublin Airport, and you can find a list of rental companies at this link: https://www.dublinairport.com/to-from-the-airport/car-rental.

There is free car parking space available within the Virginia Shopping Centre complex or there is on-street parking in Virginia also, but only for a maximum of 2-hours at a time. If you are hiring a car, you can also avail of free parking at the rear of Skelly’s B&B, should you choose to stay here.

Accommodation:

For accomodation for your stay with us, we would recommend that everyone stays in Skelly’s Bed & Breakfast: http://skellysbandb.com/rooms/.  Skelly’s is located on the Main Street and approximately 150 metres from the bus stop. Skelly’s Bed & Breakfast provides simple but comfortable accommodation.

Bookings should be made directly through their website to secure the best rate: http://skellysbandb.com.

Unfortunately, TRH is no longer able to make bookings on partners behalf.

Check-in for Skelly’s B&B is facilitated in the CostCutter convenience store on the ground floor.  Please be mindful, however, that the store closes at 10pm each night and there is no 24-hour reception at the B&B so if you anticipate that you will arrive in Virginia later than 10pm, please inform the owner, Owen-Roe Skelly, directly by emailing him at: info@skellysbandb.com at least 2 working days before your stay.  Owen-Roe will be help you to make an alternative arrangement to collect your room keys if you are arriving at a later hour.

If any partner would like to pay for their room in advance of their stay, please email Owen-Roe directly at: info@skellysbandb.com to arrange to pay for the room by bank transfer directly to Skelly’s B&B.

The meeting will take place in Virginia, where our office is located. However, accommodation options in Virginia can be limited, as we only have one this B&B in the town since COVID, which saw many accommodation providers closing down in rural areas. We would recommend that everyone stays in Skelly’s B&B as it is in the town and very close to everything, however, if you would prefer to stay in a larger hotel, there are options in nearby towns which are 20-40 minutes away by bus or car.

I am including the links here to these local hotels:

Lunch, Dinner and Social Programme:

TRH will provide lunch in our office. We will also plan a social dinner in the evening at 6.00pm or 6.30pm in a local restaurant, The Riverfront. You can find information on their menu here: http://riverfront.ie/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Riverfront-Menu-2020-pdf.pdf http://riverfront.ie/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Riverfront-Menu-2020-pdf.pdf.

If you have any special dietary requirements, please inform us, so that we can make the necessary arrangements.
